What is Ledger?

A Ledger hardware wallet is a specialized device designed to store your cryptocurrency private keys offline. Unlike software wallets (hot wallets) that are connected to the internet and vulnerable to hacks, Ledger devices keep your keys isolated in a secure element chip.

Think of it as a digital bank vault that fits in your pocket. Whether you own Bitcoin, Ethereum, or thousands of other assets, Ledger ensures that you—and only you—have access to your funds. By using Ledger.com/start, you begin your journey toward true financial sovereignty.

  • Cold Storage: Keys never touch the internet.
  • Physical Confirmation: Transactions must be manually approved.
  • Proprietary OS: BOLOS operating system designed for security.

Why Choose Ledger?

Trusted by millions of users worldwide to secure their digital legacy.

Uncompromised Security

Ledger uses a Certified Secure Element (CC EAL5+) chip, the same technology used in passports and credit cards, to protect your private data from sophisticated attacks.

Ledger Live App

The all-in-one companion app allows you to buy, sell, swap, and grow your crypto securely. Manage your entire portfolio from your desktop or mobile device.

Multi-Currency Support

Don't limit yourself. Ledger supports over 5,500 coins and tokens, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and many more, all in one device.

Getting Started Guide

Follow these steps to initialize your device securely.

1

Unbox Your Device

Whether you have a Ledger Nano S Plus, Nano X, or Stax, start by checking the box contents. You should find the device, a USB cable, and recovery sheets. Important: Ensure the recovery sheets are blank. If they already have words written on them, do not use the device and contact Ledger support immediately.

2

Download Ledger Live

Go to the official website (ledger.com/start) to download the Ledger Live application for your Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. This software is essential for updating your device's firmware and managing your accounts.

3

Initialize & Set PIN

Connect your Ledger to your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to "Set up as new device". You will be asked to choose a PIN code (4 to 8 digits). This PIN is required to unlock your device physically.

4

The Recovery Phrase

This is the most critical step. Your device will display a series of 24 words. Write them down carefully on the provided recovery sheet in the exact order.

Never take a photo of your recovery phrase or type it into a computer/phone. Anyone with these words can access your funds.

5

Install Apps & Manage

Once initialized, use the Manager tab in Ledger Live to install apps for your desired cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoin App, Ethereum App). You can then create accounts and start receiving funds securely.

Security Best Practices

Never Share Your 24 Words

Ledger support will never ask for your recovery phrase. It is for your eyes only.

Verify on Device

Always verify the receiving address on your Ledger device's screen, not just your computer screen.

Keep Firmware Updated

Regularly connect to Ledger Live to ensure your device has the latest security patches.

Buy from Official Sources

Only purchase Ledger hardware wallets from the official website or authorized resellers.
